Our Mission
The Blue Mountain Volunteer Corps is committed to fostering an engaged community by facilitating connections between dedicated volunteers and purposeful opportunities in our region. Our mission is to serve as the vital link that bridges volunteers with local agencies, ultimately enriching lives through the power of service.
"It began with an idea. What if we created a volunteer hub. Maybe people will want to stay connected beyond COVID. Or maybe this will be the spark for our community to discover the joy of service. Either way, our valley is stronger now together.”
-Becky Betts, former Population Health Manager at Providence St. Mary's
Who We Are
The Blue Mountain Volunteer Corps was established in 2019 with a mission to empower our community by providing opportunities to make a positive impact, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. This collaborative effort is made possible through the partnership of United Way of the Blue Mountains and Walla Walla University, demonstrating our commitment to community well-being.
United Way of the Blue Mountains has been a trusted force since 1940, providing an effective system for supporting local nonprofit health and human services. When coupled with the leadership and support from students at Walla Walla University's Center for Humanitarian Engagement, volunteers and agencies can rest assured that they are in capable and caring hands.
The Volunteer Corps is proud to consist of the following community leaders:
- Abby Juhasz, Whitman College
- Cheyenne Smith, United Way of the Blue Mountains
- Christy Lieuallen, United Way of the Blue Mountains
- David Lopez, Center for Humanitarian Engagement
- Liberty Anderson, Center for Humanitarian Engagement
- Nadine Stecklein, Whitman College
- Rebecca Thorpe, Blue Zones Project Walla Walla
