Hi, my name is Selina Benito and I'm the new College and Career Readiness Advisor for Columbia High School (CCRA). I will have the opportunity to work with students seeking help with their postsecondary plans, which may include apprenticeships, trade programs, joining the workforce, and 2 or 4 year colleges and universities.
I was born in Mexico and raised in a community called Vista Hermosa near Prescott, WA. I’m a proud first generation college graduate and the first in my family to pursue higher education. Navigating college as an undocumented student taught me that asking the right questions can open many doors. Now, it’s my turn to help students with similar backgrounds navigate their own postsecondary journeys.
I entered the education field right after high school as a teacher’s assistant at the elementary school in my community. From there, I went to work at Prescott High School where I remained until 2024. While working, I returned to school and earned an AA from Walla Walla Community College. I am currently enrolled at Western Governors University, where I hope to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I've always been passionate about working with students, and I believe I’ve found the right path for me. I look forward to helping guide students in their postsecondary plans.
I’m a proud DACA recipient, and I believe that I can make a difference in students’ lives, just as many adults supported me in mine. Please feel free to reach out if there’s any way I can support our students. I look forward to learning from all of you!
Hola, mi nombre es Selina Benito y soy la nueva Asesora de Preparación Universitaria y Profesional en Columbia High School (CCRA). Voy a estar apoyando a los estudiantes que quieran ayuda con sus planes después de la preparatoria, ya sea programas de aprendizaje, oficios, entrar al mundo laboral, o bien ir a un colegio o universidad de 2 o 4 años.
Nací en México y crecí en una comunidad llamada Vista Hermosa, cerca de Prescott, WA. Soy la primera en mi familia en graduarme de la universidad y en seguir estudios superiores. Estudiar siendo estudiante indocumentada me enseñó que hacer las preguntas correctas puede abrir muchas puertas. Ahora me toca a mí ayudar a estudiantes con historias parecidas a encontrar su propio camino después de la preparatoria.
Empecé a trabajar en educación justo después de graduarme de la preparatoria, como asistente de maestra en la primaria de mi comunidad. Después trabajé en Prescott High School, donde estuve hasta el 2024. Mientras trabajaba, regresé a estudiar y obtuve mi título de Asociado en Walla Walla Community College. Actualmente estoy estudiando en Western Governors University, donde espero terminar mi licenciatura en Educación Primaria. Siempre me ha apasionado trabajar con estudiantes, y siento que este es el camino correcto para mí. Estoy muy emocionada de acompañarlos en la planeación de su futuro.
Soy una orgullosa beneficiaria de DACA y creo firmemente que puedo hacer una diferencia en la vida de los estudiantes, tal como muchos adultos hicieron conmigo en la mía. Si en algún momento necesitan apoyo, no duden en acercarse. ¡Estoy muy contenta de estar aquí y de aprender junto a ustedes!
